First Choice Drug Testing

Drug Policy for workplace

Congratulations on your new job! If you’re a healthcare worker or work with small children, you might be required to take a TB skin test as a condition of employment. It’s also a good idea to get a skin test after an overseas trip or if you’re caring for an elderly or immunocompromised family member in your home. The good news is that there’s nothing to it, and our team at First Choice makes it an easy and hassle-free process!

We’re proud to be Arkansas’ most trusted third-party administrator, and we offer every conceivable lab test at our south Little Rock location. Our staff members are committed to professionalism and legendary customer service, and we keep a Medical Review Officer (MRO) on staff to ensure the accuracy of all testing results. Here are a few common questions we hear about TB skin tests, and you can contact us any time if you don’t see the answer to your question in the section below!

What is Tuberculosis? Tuberculosis (TB) infections are caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, and common symptoms include a cough that lasts over three weeks, fevers, chills, night sweats, and rapid weight loss. Individuals with TB don’t always become sick or display symptoms, but individuals with a latent TB infection (LTBI) can be contagious and spread the infection to others.

Who needs to take a TB skin test? Annual TB tests are usually a requirement for preschool and kindergarten teachers, prison guards, and healthcare workers. It’s also a good idea to take a TB test on a regular basis if you’re caring for a relative in your home and any time you return from an overseas vacation or business trip.

What are the procedures for a TB skin test? Our lab is located at 6400 Scott Hamilton Drive, and you can take your test any weekday except Thursday. We’ll inject a small amount of testing solution into your forearm, and you’ll need to visit us again in 48-72 hours to have the test “read.” You’ll receive proof of a negative test on the spot, and we’ll have you out the door in a matter of minutes!
