First Choice Drug Testing

Drug Policy for workplace

Many people mistakenly believe that Tuberculosis infections are a thing of the past, but the truth is that there are thousands of new cases each year in the United States. The infection is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and mainly affects the lungs and respiratory system. If undetected and untreated, TB can also spread to other parts of the body including the digestive system, and even the central nervous system. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone infected actually becomes sick. But persons with a latent TB infection (LTBI) can easily spread the infection to others, particularly if they are in a high risk population.

First Choice offers a wide variety of testing services, and we offer TB skin tests without an appointment every weekday except Thursday. We inject the vaccine just under the skin and the test is “read” 24-72 hours later. TB skin testing is recommended for anyone who has been exposed to someone with TB, or people who live and work in high risk areas such as nursing homes, correctional facilities, and homeless shelters. The disease is most prevalent in states where there are large immigrant and tourist populations, but there are new cases throughout the country each year. TB skin tests are typically required for healthcare workers and schoolteachers, and recommended for people who travel overseas for vacations or for business.

Tuberculosis is treatable, but like all infections and communicable diseases, early detection is important. Our testing is quick and easy, and you can always count on confidentiality and professionalism. We are always happy to answer any questions that you may have, and will make sure that you always understand your testing results. In addition to TB skin testing, we also offer virtually every other conceivable medical testing procedure that you will require. You can find a complete list of testing services at First Choice at this link.
