First Choice Drug Testing

Drug Policy for workplace

Tuberculosis (TB) infections are caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, and its most common symptoms include fevers, chills, night sweats, and rapid weight loss. Individuals with a latent TB infection (LTBI) don’t always become sick or display symptoms, but they can still spread the infection to others. The good news is that it’s quick and easy to take a TB skin test at First Choice, and we’re just a phone call away if you have any questions!

We’re proud to be Arkansas’ most trusted third-party administrator, and we keep a Medical Review Officer (MRO) on staff to ensure the accuracy of all testing results. We offer every conceivable lab test at our southwest Little Rock lab, and our staff members are committed to professionalism and legendary customer service. Here are a few frequently asked questions about TB skin tests:

When should I take a TB skin test? Healthcare professionals, prison guards, and preschool and kindergarten teachers are required to get TB tests at least annually. They’re also recommended on a regular basis for individuals caring for elderly or immunocompromised family members at home or any time you return home from an international vacation or business trip.

How do I take a TB skin test? You can take your test during business hours any weekday except Thursday at our lab located at 6400 Scott Hamilton Drive. We’ll inject a small amount of testing solution into your forearm using a very small needle, and you’ll need to visit us again in 48-72 hours to have the test “read.” Both visits will only take a few minutes, and you’ll receive proof of a negative test instantly.

What is the treatment for Tuberculosis? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately ⅓ of the world’s population has latent TB but is not ill yet; approximately 10 percent of infected individuals will develop the disease, and individuals who use tobacco or are living with HIV, malnutrition, or diabetes have a significantly higher risk. Tuberculosis is curable and preventable, and early detection is the key to optimal outcomes. You should contact a doctor immediately after a positive TB test and take all necessary precautions to avoid exposing others.
