Cheaters Always Get Busted – What’s Wrong With Collectors?
We keep up with the number of cheaters we catch, it has averaged approximately 5% consistently for the past several years. And we don’t catch everyone, so you can conclude that for every 100 collections done 5 or more will attempt to cheat.
What bothers me is when we talk to other collection sites and ask how often they catch donors try to cheat many exclaim they have never caught anyone trying to cheat. This flabbergasts me, and it further confirms that with many clinics’ cheaters get away with it.
Why is that? Many clinics that perform urine collections are not focused on drug testing, their main business is occupational health or urgent care, urine collection is more of a nuisance that they are forced to offer by demanding customers. Because of this the job of urine collector is a thankless job; for most clinics it’s an entry position with poor pay. Training is minimal at best and there’s high turnover. Additionally, many collectors would rather take a suspect specimen than face the conflict that arises when rejecting a specimen from a cheater.
We recently had a donor come in and give us a “good” urine sample, it obviously came out of her body. She then told the collector that she knew better than to cheat at First Choice Drug testing like she does at “another local clinic which I will not name”.
First Choice has a reputation throughout central Arkansas of thwarting attempts by cheaters thereby giving employers results they can trust. If we’re not currently collecting your urine specimens, perhaps we should?
