Cheaters Always Get Busted

Clinics differ when it comes to observed collections on non-dot tests. Some follow DOT regulations exactly and always do a direct observation if the first specimen is unacceptable. Others will not do direct observation on non-dot tests. Then with other clinics there’s everything in between.

The direct observation procedure is quite invasive and here at First Choice we will not do a direct observation on a non-dot test unless the employer specifically instructs us to do so. We do occasionally initiate a direct observation ourselves after a donor provides more than one unacceptable specimen; many times, these donors become belligerent as well. We inform the donor the next specimen will be directly observed to expedite the testing process; many then choose to leave the clinic thereby creating a refusal.

We had an employer instruct us to do an observed collection on a donor for a non-dot urine drug test. The donor held the cup in one hand and had his other hand in his pocket. Apparently, he had cut a hole in his pocket and was attempting to squirt liquid from a nasal spray bottle into the cup. The collector immediately stopped the collection and confiscated the nasal spray bottle which was filled with a yellow liquid. We did a second successful observed collection and sent the donor on his way. The employer was alerted of the incident. The test later reported positive for methamphetamine.

First Choice knows the importance of getting our clients reliable results quickly, if given the opportunity we will attempt to exceed your expectations!
